Here are five tasks to do  in the Flower Garden in August:

  • After flowering, prune Rambling Roses.
  • Carry on hoeing the soil to keep the weeds down.  This should be done in dry and warm weather to ensure that any weed seedling left on the soil die back and do not regrow.
  • Stake perennials such as Rudbeckias, Echinaceas and Asters.
  • To stop the garden looking messy, cut back long flowering perennials such as Hardy Geraniums right down to the ground and give them a water to encourage the foliage to regrow.
  • To stop Lavender looking leggy, once it has finished flowering, give it a good trim.
